  I mapped all 1,215 of the world’s Holocene volcanoes and the people around them. At least 147 million people live within 30 km of one, and 76 volcanoes have a million or more neighbours.

  I counted every island in a detailed open map of the world’s shorelines: 181,588 of them, 23,150 over a square kilometre. Canada has the most, and 10.3% of the world’s people live on one.
